Furniture picker. Flower lover. Always rearranging.

As a little girl, I’d walk into a furniture store, pretend it was my house, and start rearranging everything in my head. My childhood diary has sketches of how I moved my bedroom around. I never really stopped.

As a young adult, I upcycled furniture because that’s what I could afford… and I found soul in old things. I was doing shabby chic long before it was trendy.

I’ve reupholstered, painted, stained and wallpapered. Some of it went great. Some of it I did twice.

For a long time I didn’t know what to call it. I wasn’t an interior designer. I just couldn’t stop moving things around and making little vignettes everywhere.

Then I found feng shui, and it clicked. I trained with Dana Claudat at The School of Intention and became certified, and I finally had a name for what I’d been doing all along. My kind of feng shui is the practical kind: everything is energy, your home has energy, and moving your stuff around can shift more than the room.

Flowers have always been part of it too. I taught floral design at Austin Community College, and I still believe anyone can make something beautiful with grocery-store flowers… and maybe a carrot or two.

It started with friends asking for help with their homes, then co-workers. Somewhere along the way, I started thinking of myself as a bit of a furniture whisperer. Every piece has its own energy, and when it finds the right spot, the whole room feels different.

That’s what Brown With Flowers is about: the art of noticing. Good bones, kale that belongs in a vase, and the corner that’s begging to be rearranged.
